Katherine (Kate) Ball

Mentor

Kate Ball is an entrepreneurial advocate and enthusiast. A corporate and technology attorney who started her career at an international law firm in Washington, D.C., Kate has spent the last five years practicing venture capital and entrepreneurship law. Kate represents companies in company formation, technology transfer, capital raise and exit transactions, while acting as de facto general counsel in between.

Kate is active in the local entrepreneurial community. She has organized Columbus Startup Week, judged Startup Weekend, guest lectured at The Ohio State University’s Entrepreneurial Business Law Clinic, and served as a mentor and speaker for the University’s Starting Line initiative, among other activities. Kate spends a significant portion of her time listening to new ideas in coffee shops – the more outlandish, the better!

Kate’s north star is scalable legal; specifically, the productization of legal services to free attorneys from their time. Kate enjoys building with visual development platforms and has built several web applications to empower her law firm to provide services more efficiently. Recently, Kate participated in a no-code hackathon and built a voice-activated document library to select and customize legal forms. Kate founded the consulting venture Lawstack LLC in 2022 and is currently working with a local startup to grow a legal product offering.

Previously, Kate completed two federal clerkships in the Southern District of Ohio and served on the board of the Federal Bar Association’s Columbus Chapter. She is a 2009 graduate of Notre Dame Law School, where she served on the Notre Dame Law Review, received various academic awards, and was voted “best sense of humor” in her graduating class.
