Creating a Business Plan

Typically, faculty and staff members disclose an invention or approach our office with a technology that they believe may be worthy of commercial attention. Inventors may or may not know the business mechanics, product frameworks and startup pathways that may lead to the technology’s success.

Often, the inventors are interested in learning more about the general startup pathway and merits of commercial viability. Our office leverages business acumen, a startup readiness scoring methodology, and works with commercial subject matter experts from industry to determine potential business models for inventors’ technologies.

After collecting initial information from inventors, our office is able to determine the startup readiness of their invention and share an action plan with the inventor. Typically, the action plans we share include a specific set of services, resources, and other recommendations.
