Lab to Impact: Explore the Commercial Potential of Your Innovative Technology

This introductory workshop series covers essential topics for technology translation and early commercialization. Leveraging the proven methodology of the NSF I-Corps program, these workshops are designed to develop skills to accelerate the transfer of cutting-edge research to commercial success.   The workshops cover essential content required in early commercialization funding opportunities such as SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research), STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer), and the NSF PFI (Partnerships for Innovation) grant.

The workshops are geared toward graduate students, postdocs, researchers, staff,  and faculty interested in exploring early commercialization funding or startup creation.  These virtual workshops are offered on a regular cadence throughout the year, and provide actionable content and time for Q&A.  Topics in this series: 

Value Propositions 

Title: How to develop a value proposition for my innovative technology

This workshop will guide participants through the process of creating clear and compelling value propositions that answer, “What problem are you solving, what benefit are you creating, and for whom?”  We will discuss product-market fit, features vs. benefits and provide templates and examples.

Stakeholder Mapping

This workshop will delve into the concept of stakeholder and ecosystem mapping, guiding participants through the process of identifying key stakeholders, understanding stakeholder roles and pain points, and aligning the value propositions accordingly.

Early Commercialization Funding 

This information session provides a high-level introduction to funding opportunities for faculty and staff that are geared toward commercializing technologies invented at Ohio State, as well as outlining the objectives and goals typically associated with these funding mechanisms and how they differ to research grant funding.
